SayPro – Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Program
Overview
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases that affect over 1.7 billion people globally—primarily in the world’s most vulnerable communities. Despite their widespread impact, NTDs often receive insufficient attention and resources. At SayPro, we are committed to changing this.
Our NTD Program focuses on raising awareness, improving access to treatment, and supporting local and international efforts to eliminate these preventable and treatable diseases.
What Are NTDs?
NTDs include diseases such as:
- Lymphatic Filariasis (Elephantiasis)
- Schistosomiasis (Bilharzia)
- Soil-transmitted Helminths (intestinal worms)
- Onchocerciasis (River Blindness)
- Trachoma
- Leprosy
These diseases cause chronic illness, disability, social stigma, and economic hardship, especially in low-income regions.
Our Approach
SayPro’s NTD program is guided by five key pillars:
- Awareness & Advocacy
We collaborate with governments, NGOs, and media to educate the public and policymakers about the impact of NTDs and the importance of sustained action. - Community Health Education
We empower communities with knowledge to prevent and manage NTDs, promoting healthy behaviors, hygiene, and access to care. - Capacity Building
We support the training of health workers, volunteers, and educators to strengthen local health systems and provide sustainable solutions. - Access to Treatment
SayPro works with partners to facilitate the distribution of essential medications and coordinate mass drug administration (MDA) campaigns. - Monitoring & Research
We conduct field research and data collection to support evidence-based interventions and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
